Target audience:
Those who install, maintain and repair the copper and fibre connections to homes, businesses, and mobile cell sites within the UK's National Telecom Access Network.
This course supports the delivery of the following knowledge elements of the Telecoms field operative apprenticeship standard: K2, K4, K6, K7, K8, K10, K13, K14, K15.
Course prerequisites:
Education to GCSE level in English and Maths.
Course objectives:
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- describe the basic structure of, and services provided by, telecommunications access networks.
- describe the various tasks field operatives may be required to carry out and the types of environment in which they may be working.
- describe the importance of ensuring a high availability of service provision and the timely delivery and restoration of service.
- describe the procedures involved in the management of maintenance and fault-finding tasks.
- explain the importance of maintaining network records giving examples of the types of information that should be kept up to date.
- describe the advantages of, and facilities provided by, online task and network record management applications.
- explain that the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) require that organisations protect the confidentiality of its customers' and employees' personal data.
- explain that any misuse of personal data can lead to financial and reputational losses for an organisation.
- describe the measures that employers and employees should take to adhere to GDPR requirements.
- identify the hazards that may be faced by telecoms field operatives in their working environment.
- describe the importance of being aware of, and adhering to, appropriate safe working practices with reference to risk assessments and method statements.
- explain the role of the health and safety at work Act and various regulations and approved codes of practice in detailing safe working practice.
- explain that the safety at street works and road works code of practice details how to protect operatives, pedestrians, and motorists.
