New fibre to the home course
September 7th, 2011
Access to the Internet has become an indispensable part of social and business life for an increasing number of people. With high speed broadband connections, users can access triple play services (Internet, telephony and television) and, with the introduction of cloud computing, working from home becomes practicable. Online education, remote health care, and online access to public services are other applications which benefit from a Fibre To The Home (FTTH) connection.
According to a recent report from FTTH Council Europe, there are now more than eight million FTTH broadband users in Europe. This report also disclosed that 33 million homes are now within reach of FTTH broadband network so many more users can be expected in the near future. Elsewhere, there are 8.6 million FTTH users in the USA and 43 million in Asia.
PTT has just released an updated version of its “Fibre in the access network” course which covers the technical aspects of FTTH and the lower speed alternative Fibre To The Cabinet (FTTC). This updated online course includes the latest developments in passive optical networks including the latest 10 Gbit/s versions.

New LTE mobile courses
July 7th, 2011
The growth in the take up of Long Term Evolution (LTE) mobile is accelerating, mainly driven by the increasing demand for high-speed Internet access while on the move. LTE is also seen as a way of providing Internet access where fixed line broadband performs poorly, for example in rural areas.
According to the GSM Association (GSMA) there are one million LTE users already and 300 million are expected by 2015.
PTT has just released an updated version of its course MOF: “LTE (4G) mobile radio networks”. This course introduces the benefits and underlying technologies of LTE radio access networks and the Evolved Packet Core (EPC).
A new companion course which provides in-depth coverage of LTE system operation is now also available. This online course MOG: “LTE mobile systems” includes topics such as the provision of differentiated services, roaming between LTE and 2G/3G networks, and providing voice services over LTE. This new course also introduces the benefits and operation of the next generation of mobile service: LTE Advanced.
