This course discusses the technical aspects of providing a Television over IP (IPTV) service. Beginning with the principles and characteristics of video displays, the course then explains MPEG compression and the methods used to transport video over an IP network. Finally, the course describes the components, operation and testing of an IPTV system.

The provision of an IPTV service inc . the components of an IPTV system, the role and comparison of transport protocols and the operation of IGMP multicasting.
Testing Video over IP inc. a review of the causes and effects of impairments in an IP network, the factors that affect channel changing speed and the types and capabilities and use of IPTV test equipment.
