Frame Relay course

This course describes the protocols and explains the techniques used in networks offering Frame Relay services. Typical Frame Relay service offerings are also described.

Prerequisites:

An understanding of the basic principles of packet switching. It is recommended that one of the following e-learning courses is studied before attempting the Frame Relay course: TransNet course A - "Principles of WANs" or StarTel


Summary of topics covered:

Introduction to Frame Relay networks, protocols and services.

Frame Relay virtual circuits and the significance of the DLCI.

Congestion control in Frame Relay networks.

Local Management Interface (LMI) extensions to Frame Relay.

Provision of voice services over Frame Relay.
