X25 data service course

This course discusses the protocols and techniques used in an X25 data service. Typical X25 service offerings are also described.

Prerequisite:

An understanding of the basic principles of packet switching. It is recommended that one of the following e-learning courses is studied before attempting the X25 course: TransNet course A - "Principles of WANs" or StarTel course A - "Telecoms fundamentals".


Summary of topics covered:

Introduction to X25 networks, protocols and services.

X25 equipment: DCEs, DTEs, switches and PADS.

X25 virtual circuits and the significance of the Logical Channel Number (LCN).

Functions of the fields in PLP packets and LAPB frames.

X25 error correction and flow control techniques.
