MediaNet consists of five separate but integrated courses:

Voice switching
Voice over IP
VoIP systems
C7 signalling systems
Video over IP

Scope:

The first MediaNet course provides an introduction to the principles and operation of circuit-switched telephony as used in the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Fundamental issues that are also relevant to Voice over IP services are discussed including signalling, teletraffic engineering and numbering.

The second MediaNet course introduces the principles and operation of systems that provide voice and video services over IP networks. The course begins by explaining the principles of Voice over IP (VoIP) then discusses in detail two types of VoIP system: SIP and H.323.

The third MediaNet course discusses the facilities, components and operation of Voice over IP systems that provide public telephony services with emphasis on those based on a IP Multimedia Sub-system (IMS).

The fourth MediaNet course provides an in depth discussion of the C7 signalling system as used in both fixed and mobile networks. This course discusses the structure and operation of the network and the protocols that ensure the delivery of signalling messages.The course also describes the various application parts of C7 inc. ISUP and MAP.

The final MediaNet course describes the technical aspects of providing a Television over IP (IPTV) service. The course begins by explaining the principles of video display, encoding and MPEG compression then describes the components, operation and testing of an IPTV system.

The five MediaNet courses offer an extensive range of training facilities and together provide over 30 hours of training.
